ET Team brings to you an exclusive interview of the cute and chirpy Giaa Manek.
How has your journey been so far?
I feel its been amazing for a new comer like me to come into this industry without any support and to start from no where, the first show itself gave me an amazing opportunity, role and platform because i can show my talent only if i get a right platform and my first show itself gave me all this. So i feel i’m extremely blessed and i couldn’t have asked for more.
Was it a cake walk for you to get into this industry and be tagged as versatile actress?
Since the time i was 6 years old, i used to watch television and movies and I had told my parents that i want to become an actress when i grow up. They laughed it off because as kids we say a lot of things and they didn’t take me seriously. Since that time i was extremely serious about it and all my father wanted was that i should finish my basic education which i finished and then did my portfolio and then there was no looking back.
How did your parents react when they got to know that you were serious about acting?
My father was a little possessive as he works for a outdoor agency and he knows how it is and I convinced him after my education and it all depends on how you conduct yourself. There are good and bad people in all the industries and not only in Television. So it all depends on how you conduct or carry yourself. I told him to trust me and allow me to follow my dreams. He wasn’t initially happy but then i worked hard and made a place for myself.
With different shows , from Gopi to Jeannie how have you evolved as an actor?
I explored myself as an actress with Jeannie because i didn’t have any official training for acting and whatever i know or learnt is from the set. To be honest, i had learnt acting during auditions and waited for my break for almost 2 plus years. With every audition i started getting more confident and better. But when Jeannie happened it was a very big challenge for me because Gopi was docile, innocent sweet bahu who doesn’t talk at all and Jeannie was the exact opposite who is very flirty, flamboyant and very talkative. Crying is one genre and comedy is another and i actually explored as an actress with Jeannie.
There are situations where you are very happy when you come to work but director tells you that its going to be sad scene today. How do you manage to switch on and off?
In the initial days it used to be very difficult but every passing day it was becoming easier. If the scene requires me to be sad that day i used to think about a personal incident which makes me sad to get the right emotions or listen to very emotional songs, sit in a room alone and ask people not to disturb me for 5 minutes and then will be back on sets in the correct mind frame.
How do you handle rumours or any mishap happening around on sets?
As each day passes work wise you become more stronger and more mature and you get to know how people are around you , how the industry works and how can you handle it. When we come to the industry its not that we know what to be done and what not but we just learn it over time. If anyone wants to be part of this industry you need to take everything with a pinch of salt. If you are popular then there is a problem and if you are not popular also there is a problem. If you are popular there are going to be lots of people who are obviously not going to talk good about you and you cannot let it affect your personal life and professional life also. It’s not easy but you need to learn it over time.
There have been rumors about your tiff with Star plus and then with Jeannie team. Do you want to clarify on that?
Actually there was never a fight with Star plus or Jeannie team. It’s just the situations have been unpleasant, the situations have been in such a way that they are right for their channel and their show and i have been right for what i’ve been doing for myself. I wouldn’t say that they are wrong or I’m wrong. Everyone’s right in their own situation and nobody can blame. I can’t sit and think why this happened to me , rather i’m glad that this happened. For a new comer like me there is no contacts to get a break and it doesn’t matter if there are rumors floating around, that’s what makes me stronger and makes me grow. If this wouldn’t have happened i wouldn’t have been as strong or as smart that i should be to handle such situations in my life.
Any Dream role that you would like to play?
I’m a big fan of Kareena Kapoor. I would like to play something like Geet in Jab We Met. She was great in the movie and i really loved it and would like to play such a character.
Message for your fans.
I know that they pray for me much more than I do for myself. Whatever shows i’ve done i feel that without my fans they wouldn’t have done well. They watch the shows and do so many things on social networking sites and do so many things to connect to us. All credit goes to them. Besides God, I would like to thank my fans and viewers because whatever i’ve worked and achieved in my life is because of their good wishes and their prayers for me.
All the best Giaa for your future endeavors.
